My Definition of a DFW Spring

If you ask locals when North Texas really comes alive, most of us will say the same thing…spring.

The weather finally cooperates, patios fill up again, bluebonnets start popping up along highways, and it feels like every weekend there’s a festival somewhere across Dallas Fort Worth. It’s one of those seasons that reminds you why so many people love living here.

For us, a DFW spring looks a little like this.

Texas Rangers Baseball at Globe Life Field

Spring in North Texas always starts with Rangers baseball returning to Globe Life Field in Arlington. There’s something about those first few home games of the season. The weather is perfect, the stadium is buzzing again, and it becomes an easy evening plan with friends or family.

Even if you’re not a huge baseball fan, opening weekend in Arlington is a pretty classic DFW spring tradition.

Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum

Every spring, the Dallas Arboretum transforms during Dallas Blooms, the largest floral festival in the Southwest. Thousands upon thousands of tulips, daffodils, and spring flowers fill the gardens overlooking White Rock Lake.

It’s one of those places where you’ll see families taking photos, couples walking the garden paths, and people just enjoying being outside again after winter.

Arts in Bloom in Historic Downtown McKinney

If you’ve never been to Arts in Bloom in Historic Downtown McKinney, it’s one of those events that perfectly captures the charm of North Texas.

The historic square fills with artists, vendors, live music, and food while people stroll the streets and pop into shops and restaurants. It’s one of those weekends where downtown McKinney feels like the center of everything.

The Ennis Bluebonnet Festival

Spring in Texas wouldn’t be complete without bluebonnets, and Ennis is famous for them.

Think jousting tournaments, medieval costumes, artisan markets, and yes… the famous turkey legs. It’s one of the largest Renaissance festivals in the country and a surprisingly fun day trip from anywhere in the metroplex.

Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival

Food lovers look forward to the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival every spring.

The event highlights some of the best chefs and restaurants in North Texas, with themed tasting events, live music, and plenty of opportunities to try new food and drinks. It’s one of those weekends where you can spend the entire day sampling your way through the best of the local food scene.

Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival

Another huge spring event is the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival in downtown Fort Worth.

For four days, Sundance Square turns into a massive outdoor art gallery with hundreds of artists, multiple music stages, and food vendors throughout the streets. It’s one of the biggest arts festivals in Texas and always draws big crowds.

The Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade

And of course, there’s the Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Greenville Avenue, one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the Southwest.

Parade floats, marching bands, and thousands of people dressed in green fill the streets. It’s one of those events that marks the unofficial start of festival season across Dallas.
